The Grenada National Cricket Stadium, formerly Queen's Park, is a cricket ground on River
Road, St George's, the capital of Grenada. A Grenada cricket team is first recorded in West
Indies cricket in 1887, playing against a touring Gentlemen of America team at the original
Queen's Park ground.
Kirsten resigns as Pakistan's white-ball coach
The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced Jason Gillespie will coach the Pakistan men's
cricket team on next month's white-ball tour of Australia after Gary Kirsten submitted his
resignation, which was accepted," the PCB said in a brief statement. A part of the 15-member ODI
squad departed for Australia on Monday, with the rest following on Tuesday.
New Zealand level series through Devine's all-round brilliance
In a fortnight of seismic achievements in the sportfor the country, victory in the second
ODI against India in Ahmedabad might be understated, but New Zealand not only achieved
parity in
the three-match series but also bagged crucial Women's Championship points to give their
direct
qualification path to next year's ODI World Cup a significant fillip. Their comprehensive
76-run
victory was a function of key contributions from the team's senior cricketers, most notably
that
of Sophie Devine's, with the captain scoring 79 off 86 in the team's total of 259 before
backing
that up with three wickets.
VVS Laxman set to be India's head coach in South Africa
VVS Laxman will be the head coach for India's short white ball tour of South Africa. He
will step in as incumbent national coach, Gautam Gambhir, will be Australia-bound for the
Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The decision was confirmed to Cricbuzz by a top official of the Board of Control for Cricket in
India (BCCI) on Monday. The four-match series was not initially scheduled. It was recently
arranged between the BCCI and Cricket South Africa (CSA).
Bangladesh confronted by internal and external tests to save series
To this series' list of notable newsmakers, add Najmul Hossain Shanto. Unlike the other two,
Shakib Al Hasan and Chandika Hathurusingha, Najmul is still on the scene. But maybe not for much
longer in his current role.
Shakib withdrew from the squad six days before the start of the first Test in Mirpur, citing
security concerns in the wake of his decision to join Sheikh Hasina's despised and deposed Awami
League. Two days later, Hathurusinghe was sacked over his alleged assault of one of his players
during last year's World Cup.
Najmul hasn't hit the headlines as hard, but his is a significant blow nonetheless. On Saturday
the BCB and Najmul told Cricbuzz that Najmul didn't want to continue as captain after the
series. The suits have yet to accept his decision.
